SOUL SOUND

Jazz Music

Influenced and developed by the combination from both the harmonics of the European and African Rhythm, Jazz often allows freedom as it encourages improvisations resulting in the development of originality in each musician to the genre. Because of this, the compositions from other great musicians can be hard to attempt if copied by another. Improvisation implements creativity thus a person cannot just simply re-perform or composite the other. This can result in a strictness in performance if one must perform the exact same composition of a great musician.

The great musicians that contributed and implemented the genre are Louis Armstrong and Bunny Berigan. The two most well known artists in jazz history are the ones who made the standards due to their performances and skills. There are Louis’ masterpieces such as “Hotter than That”. The composition of his songs were broken off into sections as there are various approaches that he performed to the song. To be specific, plays a solo that is entirely improvised, Many of his notes are ghosted--played so lightly that they are almost inaudible. Around this is the first chorus of his song begins with a descending arpeggio (broken-up chord), accompanied by a few accents on the backbeat, before finishing the phrase with a quick triplet figure. As his finisher to the song was an off-balance line to generate and ends on a dissonant diminished 7th chord, leaving the harmony suspended.

"Struttin with Some Barbecue" by Bunny Berigan

Bunny Berigan’s “Struttin’ with Some Barbecue” and a few others are made with techniques that are recognized by the public as well as other musicians that admired him. One of the artists performances is among the most significant of his life and a lasting gift to music. Due to his skills in his instrument it is considered that there isn't a trumpeter since who hasn't marveled at the brilliance of his tone, coherence of his soloing, and perfection of his execution on the 1938 "Struttin' With Some Barbecue." It is, plain and simple, a flawless record.
