Considered both as a music and a cultural movement started in the 1970s and became popular at the start of the 1980s. The genre generally includes rhythms that are considered beats or percussive sounds which are heavily incorporated to the songs. It sets the mood to the lyrics that contain poems or speeches best known as a rap. The genre during the specified year became influential to the teens or youth. Due to the style of the music, it is not just expressed in the lyrics but also in body movements or dance and other forms of art aside from music. Artists or musicians are not best described but considered as “Deejays” as they improvise or modify sounds of a record better termed as “scratching” which is best known as remix today. The expression of movement was considered as a major role to the genre as compared to the music. Break dancers are known for their improvised movements expressed to the music and became popular as they perform. These movements ideally performed acrobatic, airborne related moves and other actions that can be appeasing to see to the public.

The genre is mostly termed as “rap songs” where artists are called as rappers. A lot of contributors to the genre but the popularly known rappers before and today were respected and recognized as they achieved fame to their type of style in rap music. One of the most recognized ones was Eminem, who is considered as a representation of the specified genre having the title King of Hip-hop by the Rolling Stone. One of his songs, “Rap God” were appreciated and popularized due to the articulations of the lyrics by the artist and understandable to the message he wrote and the delivery of the song. Another recent song he made was titled “Higher” that approaches more motivational speech but keeping the artist’s style to the song.
