“This Land is Your Land” by Woody Guthrie

One of the earliest contributors to the mentioned genre was Woody Guthrie’s “This Land is Your Land”. Guthrie’s songs were defined and related to have a meaning in socialists and communists. The intended general message of the song is that it is about inclusion and equality between other people. The American ideal was broken down into simple, eloquent language and set to a melody to memorize them easily when heard . The underlying message, repeated throughout the song, makes the heart swell: "This land was made for you and me." signifies that we share an equal ground to the other excluding that there is an advantage to the other.

In addition to another song that falls to the same genre is called “Vincent” by Don McLean. The lyrics tell events, stories and the relations of the singer to the person. The person relates or was actually meant for the artist, Vincent Van Gogh's painting and that it connects to his actual life. The words and imagery of this song represent the life, work, and death of Vincent Van Gogh. The song was calm and soothing similar to the approach of a bedtime song but the lyrics were intended as the story of the artists painter hence the reason for his title of the song.
